27 Jan How to pick the perfect all Inclusive resort?

Most people, when booking an All inclusive vacation, look at general public reviews and price! I am not saying that it’s a bad thing, it’s great! But there are a couple more ways to ensure that you don’t end up in a march break party with your family of four!

1- Do you have children and are you bringing them with you?

If so, make sure you pick a family friendly resort. Some resorts are indifferent to children, but there are some pretty amazing family friendly resorts out there that offer an array of daily activities for the little bambinos! More quiet time for mom and dad! 🙂 Look for family and children activities in the resort description before you book. It could make your whole vacation much more relaxing!

2- Do you want children around?

If you don’t have kids, or don’t plan on bringing yours on this vacation, do you want to have kids around at all? Chances are if you are going on a couples vacation, you probably would rather not have tons of kiddos running around. If you are planning this vacation for a big group of party animal, you might not feel very welcome in a family friendly resort! Maybe an adults only (18+) resort would be the best option for you!

3- What is the purpose of your vacation?

If you want to relax and enjoy some piece and quiet by the ocean, you might want to concentrate on finding a smaller resort. Resorts that have around or less than 500 rooms have a much more relaxing atmosphere than the ones that have 1000+ rooms!

If you are out for a big party and too much drinking, then the bigger, 18+ resorts are your best pick! Cancun, Mexico has very big beach party resorts.

If you are looking for out of resort adventures, pick a resort that is centrally located. You can also look up the  or sites you plan on visiting and then find a resort close by! Varadero, Cuba offers numerous out of resort activities such as jeep safaris, snorkelling, catamaran tours, diving courses, zip lining, cigar rolling courses, and much more. Runaway bay, Jamaica also offers quite a bit of excursions, Bob Marley tours where you visit his personal home and much more, catamaran tours and other fun activities.

4- What is your budget?

Of course, it is important to stay within budget. As you probably already know, some destinations are more expensive than others.

Cuba is the cheapest, and also my favourite! Not because of the price, but because of the beaches and the people! The out of resort charm gets me every time. The beaches is Cuba are the prettiest I have ever seen. You probably heard that the food wasn’t the best… It is true that the food is different, but if you can get past the fact that the food is not the same as you eat at home, and look for things that would be the closest to local food you might be surprises. They know how to cook fish, man the fish is good!

Jamaica is $$$, the beaches aren’t as nice as Cuba, but the food is more “Americanized”. And for some, its the green spice that influences them to visit this country!

In Dominican, the beaches are very nice, and the food is a happy medium, some resorts offer really good cuisine. Dominican is, generally speaking, cheaper than Jamaica and pricier than Cuba.

As far as Mexico, I would say it is similar as Dominican price wise, however, I would say that if you are looking for out of resort adventures, like visiting local cities, local restaurants etc… Mexico is your best pick! There is so much culture here and so much to see beyond the resort scene. Make sure you talk to your resorts front desk to find a safe method of transportation to get around.

5- When are you going?

post3Some people will book vacations in the late fall, because of the drop in prices! It is smart, thats what we do! But you have to be aware of hurricane season in each of these countries. You wouldn’t want to be stuck in a typhoon!!! Be careful in winter months, Cuba gets a little frisky. I hear it all the time; “We went to Cuba, it wasn’t sunny”, “we were wearing sweaters on the beach…”. Check the weather before you book. You can find weather trends from previous years online pretty easily.

We hope that this article helps you make a more informed decision when booking an All inclusive vacation! Research is important, especially if it keeps you from booking a trip on a nudist resort with your 4 kids and grandma Sue!

Happy Travels!
